Doug McArthur Classic returns to Memorial Fieldhouse this weekend

SPECTATOR POLICY
McARTHUR CLASSIC HOMEPAGE

TACOMA, Washington –
The Doug McArthur Classic returns to Memorial Fieldhouse when the Puget Sound men's basketball team hosts Redlands, Claremont-M-S, and Pacific Lutheran Nov. 19-20. The Loggers take on CMS Friday at 8 p.m., and then host Redlands Saturday at 6 p.m.

Return of the Classic
Puget Sound last hosted the Doug McArthur Classic in November 2019. The event celebrates Tacoma native and Puget Sound alum Doug McArthur. He became Puget Sound's Athletic Director in 1969, and he was inducted into the Puget Sound Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998. Dating back to the 2010-11 season, Puget Sound is 12-8 in the Doug McArthur Classic.

Double trouble
Cal Hansen and Mussie Teclemariam are both averaging a double-double through the first four games of the season. Hansen averages 11.8 points and 10.0 rebounds, while Teclemariam averages 10.0 points and 10.0 boards.

Pick your poison
Four Loggers average double digits in scoring. In addition to Cal Hansen and Mussie Teclemariam, Paul Johnson averages 20.7 points, and Grant Erickson averages 12.5.

Young, but not shy
Sophomore Paul Johnson and freshman Will Pohland have each made eight 3-pointers this season – the most for the Loggers.

Scouting Calremont-M-S (0-0)
This weekend marks the first games of the season for the Stags. The program did not compete in 2020-21. Two years ago, CMS posted a 19-7 overall record, and an 11-5 mark in the SCIAC. It lost to Redland in the first round of the SCIAC tournament.

Scouting Redlands (2-1)
The Bulldogs have wins against the Loggers and Pacific Lutheran this season, with a loss against Whitworth. When Redlands hosted Puget Sound last week (Nov. 13), Darne Duckett scored 34 points en route to an 80-66 win. Duckett averages 19.3 points per game, and Justice Marmara averages 11.3. Redlands struggles with its 3-point shot, connecting on just 25.7-percent of its attempts from distance.
