Box Score TACOMA, Washington – Paul Johnson went off in the second half, leading the Puget Sound men's basketball team to an 83-67 win over Redlands in the Doug McArthur Classic finale Saturday evening.
Johnson scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half, including 18 points in the final 10 minutes of the game.
The Loggers (3-3) and Bulldogs (2-3) were knotted up, 50-50, with 12:08 left in regulation. Johnson broke the tie by making a couple of free-throws, and the unassuming points sparked a 15-0 run for the Loggers.
During that run, Puget Sound went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. The only points from the floor during the 15-0 run were a couple of 3-pointers made by Johnson.
Johnson buried three more 3-pointers in the final 90 seconds of the game, leaving no doubt that Puget Sound would avenge its loss at Redlands least week (Nov. 13).
Cal Hansen scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the winning effort, and
Mussie Teclemariam scored 12 points to go with six rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.
Puget Sound has one more game before the Northwest Conference slate begins. The Loggers are at Northwest Saturday, Nov. 27, for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.
