Spence, Matheny deliver 1-0 Senior Day win over PLU

Box Score TACOMA, Washington – On senior day, two-time All-Northwest Conference senior Cale Spence delivered the game-winning goal to give the Puget Sound men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Pacific Lutheran in Baker Stadium Saturday afternoon. It was the final game of 2021 for the Loggers.

In the 87th minute, Stuart Methner dribbled into the box on the right side where he was tripped up. There was no doubt as to who was going to take the penalty kick. Spence, the Loggers' leading scorer, buried his eighth goal of the season into the lower left corner.

Spence's goal wasn't the only big penalty kick in the game.

PLU was awarded a penalty kick in the 59th minute, but Andrew Matheny made a diving save to his right.

Puget Sound won both of its games against PLU this season by a 1-0 final.

Before the game, Puget Sound celebrated its five seniors: Gabriel Faro-White, Lincoln Schell, Cale Spence, Jonathan Vair, and Tyler Zamira.
