Puget Sound hosts Linfield, George Fox for first NWC games of season

TACOMA, Washington – A remarkable winning streak gets tested by Northwest Conference opponents for the first time when the Puget Sound women's basketball team hosts Linfield (Dec. 3) and George Fox (Dec. 4) this weekend. The Loggers take on the Wildcats at 6 p.m., and then tipoff against the Bruins at 4 p.m.
 
Lucky 7
Puget Sound enters the weekend with seven consecutive wins, marking the program's longest winning streak since the 2016-17 season. During the streak, the Loggers have attempted at least 29 3-pointers in win, and they have totaled at least 40 rebounds in five of those seven wins.
 
Logger of the Week
Samantha Swartout was named the Logger of the Week after scoring a career-high 23 points in Puget Sound's 64-52 win over Walla Walla (Nov. 27). She is the Loggers' second-leading scorer this season, averaging 10.3 points per game.
 
On a different level
Sophie Nilsson is the NWC's third-leading scorer with 17.8 points per game. She leads the conference in made 3-pointers (16), she ranks ninth in rebounding (6.0), and she tied for the NWC lead for blocks per game (1.4).
 
Give a hand for Minnehan
Katie Minnehan is an efficient scorer, shooting 50-percent from the floor. But she doesn't need to put up a lot of points to help the Loggers win. Minnehan is versatile on both ends of the floor, as she leads the Loggers in rebounding (6.3), steals (3.6), and assists (2.8).  
 
Scouting Linfield (0-7)
The winless Wildcats have lost all of their games by double digits. The team commits a little more than 22 turnovers per game, and it is shooting just 24.3-percent from 3-point range. Gillyan Landis averages a team-high 13.7 points, and Emma Schmerbach averages 5.9 rebounds.
 
Scouting George Fox (2-3)
Following an east-coast trip in which the Bruins beat Emerson and Trinity (Conn.), George Fox lost its two most recent games in California against Whittier and Pomona-Pitzer. The Bruins average 41.6 rebounds as a team, and they connect on 35.6-percent of their attempts from distance. No Bruin averages double-digits in scoring, and Alyssa Wells has a team-high 8.6 points per game. Emily Stephens averages a team-high 7.2 rebounds, and Jordan Ryan averages 7.0.
