TACOMA, Washington – Four Loggers scored in double figures as the Puget Sound women's basketball team won its ninth consecutive game by topping George Fox, 80-72, in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday evening.
Â
For the second consecutive game,
Kennedy Brown led the Loggers in scoring. The sophomore scored a career-high 23 points by shooting 5-for-11 from 3-point range, and 8-for-18 from the floor.
Sophie Nilsson added 18 points and a game-high five assists, while
Katie Minnehan and
Addison Reardon both finished with 11 points.
Â
Samantha Swartout finished the game with eight points and eight boards.
Â
The Loggers (9-1, 2-0 NWC) never trailed against George Fox (2-5, 0-2 NWC), thanks in large part to a big first quarter. Puget Sound's lead was as big as 24-10 in the opening period, and the first 10 minutes closed with a 24-14 Logger advantage.
Â
The Bruins either kept pace with or outscored the Loggers in each of the next three quarters, but Puget Sound's defense forced the Bruins into 22 turnovers. The Loggers turned the ball over 14 times.
Â
Puget Sound's up-tempo style allowed the Maroon & White to attempt 69 shots from the floor, while George Fox attempted just 48 shots.
Â
The Loggers' next game is at home, Dec. 29, against Northwest. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
