Box Score SPOKANE, Washington – Four Puget Sound starters scored in double figures as the Loggers beat Whitworth, 79-58, Friday night.
Freshman Paige Gerhart led all players in scoring with 21 points. She also put up seven assists and eight boards. Fellow freshman Sophie Nilsson scored 16 points in the winning effort, while Samantha Swartout and Katie Minnehan each added 10 for Puget Sound (2-3, 2-3 NWC).
Whitworth (1-1, 1-1 NWC) and the Loggers were tied up through the game's 10 minutes, but Puget Sound pulled away in the second quarter.
A couple of free-throws made by Gerhart sparked a 9-2 for the Loggers. Gerhart hit a layup in the Loggers' next possession. Following another defensive stop, Minnehan hit a layup of her own.
The run was capped off by a 3-pointer from Sovia Lavinder. Puget Sound took a 37-27 lead into halftime, and they never trailed in the second half.
The Loggers and Pirates will play again Saturday, Feb. 13, at 5:30 p.m.
