Box Score TACOMA, Washington – Samantha Swartout came away with her first double-double of the season to lead the Puget Sound women's basketball team to an 85-79 win over Whitman Friday night in Memorial Fieldhouse.
Puget Sound snapped a four-game losing streak against the Blues.
Swartout scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Loggers (3-4, 3-4 NWC). She shot 2-for-4 from 3-point range and 7-for-14 from the floor.
Kennedy Brown scored 17 points and dished out seven assists in the win. Jordyn Reverman scored 10 points, and Sofia Lavinder netted 13 off the bench.
Whitman (4-1, 4-1 NWC) won the first quarter by a point, but the Loggers won each of the following three quarters. A fastbreak layup by Lavinder gave the Loggers a 33-31 lead late in the second quarter, and Puget Sound held the lead for the rest of the game.
Puget Sound took its first double-digit lead of the game, 54-44, when Katie Minnehan found Lavinder on a backdoor cut for an easy two points.
Whitman pulled to within five points, 85-70, late in the fourth quarter, but Georgia Lavinder and Reverman both went 2-for-2 from the foul line down the stretch, putting the game out of reach for the Blues.
Puget Sound shot 48.5-percent from the floor, its second-best mark this season.
The Loggers and Blues go at it again Saturday, Feb. 20, at 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Fieldhouse.
