Box Score TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's basketball team stayed neck-and-neck with Whitman up until miscues towards the end allowed the Blues to come away with a 61-53 win in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday night.
The Loggers were down by a point with 2:30 left in regulation when Sophie Nilsson hit a step-back 3-pointer to give Puget Sound a 51-49 edge. However, the Blues immediately tied up the game with a jumper.
Puget Sound couldn't convert on its next possession, and once more Whitman delivered a jump shot for two points. Samantha Swarout earned a trip to the free-throw line where she made both attempts to tie the game with one minute remaining.
The Blues remained hot and scored two points on the other end. From then, Puget Sound committed two turnovers and missed a couple of treys.
Swartout nearly notched her second double-double of the weekend by scoring 11 points and grabbing nine boards. Katie Minnehan also pulled down nine rebounds to go with seven points. Nilsson finished with a season-high 18 points.
Puget Sound tips off next week against Pacific Lutheran in Parkland, Washington, Feb. 26-27.
