Wilson and Hansen lead Loggers to 79-70 win over the Blues

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – After going winless against Whitman for nearly 7 seven years, the Puget Sound men's basketball team beat the Blues for the second time this season, 79-70, in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday night.

Cal Hansen had his third double-double of the season. He scored 18 points to go along with 14 boards. Paul Johnson scored 14 points, and Donovan Wilson finished with 10.

Puget Sound's intense full-court defense was a nuisance to Whitman all night. The Blues committed 17 turnovers – 10 of which were steals by the Loggers.

Puget Sound took a 35-34 lead into halftime, and that lead increased to 42-36 after Johnson crossed up his defender and hit a layup. The Loggers' lead hit double digits when Jourdan Joseph dished a nice pass to Mussie Teclemariam for an open layup. Puget Sound went up 46-36 just six minutes into the second half.

Whitman would not quit, and pulled to within six points, 59-53, with 6:29 left in regulation. But Wilson answered with a corner 3-pointer right in front of his team's bench, shifting the momentum back to Puget Sound's favor.

Puget Sound shot 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in the final 63 seconds of the game.

The Loggers stay local next week to take on Pacific Lutheran in Parkland, Washington, Feb. 26-27.
