Box Score PARKLAND, Washington – Sophie Nilsson went off for 26 points to lead the Puget Sound women's basketball team to a 93-89 win at Pacific Lutheran Friday night.
Nilsson's season-best in scoring came from 10-for-16 shooting from the field, and a 4-for-7 performance from 3-point range.
Samantha Swartout scored 16 points in the winning effort, and Grayce Pytynia-Hillier had a season-best 14 points. Sofia Lavinder finished with 11 points.
The Lutes (3-5, 3-5 NWC) had 48-42 lead at halftime, and they cushioned that lead by two points after the third quarter.
But Puget Sound went off in the fourth quarter.
PLU had an 80-70 lead with seven minutes left in regulation, but a layup from Rebekah Dassalla started an 11-2 run for the Loggers. A couple of free-throws by Swartout brough the Loggers to within 82-81.
An old fashioned three-point play by Katie Minnehan tied the game, 87-87, with one minute left. The Loggers claimed a 90-89 lead when Swartout converted on a three-point play of her own.
The Loggers and Lutes go head-to-head in Parkland Saturday, Feb. 27, at 5:30 p.m.
