Loggers take Lutes down to the wire, but PLU wins in five sets

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – Melanie Siacotos had a season-high 12 kills to lead the Puget Sound volleyball team to a five-set battle against Pacific Lutheran Friday night, but the Lutes came away with the win in Memorial Fieldhouse.

Siacotos also added four block assists for Puget Sound (1-5, 1-5 NWC).

The Lutes (3-2, 3-2 NWC) had a two set to one advantage, and they were up 14-9 in the fourth set. Back by Alli Reviglio's serving, however, the Loggers went on a 5-0 run to tie the set.

The Loggers finally broke through to take a lead, 20-19, on a PLU error. An ace from Sarah Blumenfeld pushed that lead to 21-19, and a kill from Siacotos made it 22-19. The Loggers won the set, 25-23.

Blumenfeld gave the Loggers a good start to the fifth set with another ace, but from there PLU went on a 7-2 run. The Lutes won the fifth set, 15-11.

The Loggers and Lutes meet once more Saturday, Feb. 27, in Memorial Fieldhouse at 6 p.m.
