Lavinder nets 17 points in overtime loss to PLU

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – Georgia Lavinder led the Puget Sound women's basketball team in scoring with 17 points, but Pacific Lutheran outlasted Puget Sound, 82-79, in overtime Friday night in Memorial Fieldhouse.

Lavinder shot 5-for-10 from 3-point range and 6-for-12 overall from the floor. Paige Gerhart filled the stat sheet with 15 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Katie Minnehan added 12 points.

Puget Sound (0-3, 0-3 NWC) held a 64-57 lead with just under two minutes left in regulation, but missed free-throws down the stretch allowed the Lutes (1-4, 1-4 NWC) to force overtime.

The extra period opened with Gerhart hitting a driving layup on the left side. PLU briefly took a 73-70 advantage, but Gerhart tied it up with a corner trey.

From then, however, the Lutes went on a 7-3 run and held on to win.

Minnehan made things interesting when she hit a straight-away 3-pointer to bring the Loggers to within 80-79 with five seconds on the clock. But PLU made two free-throws, and a half-court heave by the Loggers went wide right.

The Loggers and Lutes go head-to-head again in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday, Feb. 6, at 5:30 p.m.
