Box Score PARKLAND, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team had its first match of the 2020-21 year Friday night, but the Loggers lost at Pacific Lutheran, 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17).
After dropping the first set by a narrow margin, the Loggers (0-1, 0-1 NWC) fought back to win the second set. The Lutes (1-0, 1-0 NWC) took a 4-0 lead in that second set, but Puget Sound then went on a 4-1 run.
Aliah Ayau had back-to-back services aces in the middle of the set, giving the Loggers an 11-10 edge.
Later in the set, Katherine Carley put away a kill to extend the Puget Sound lead to 17-12. Puget Sound clung to a 23-22 lead, and Jena Williams put the set away with consecutive kills.
Sarah Blumenfeld finished the match with 11 assists, and while Jordan Holman had a team-high six kills.
The Loggers and Lutes go at it again at PLU Saturday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m.
