Chekian leads Loggers to five-set win over Whitman

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – Freshman Katelyn Chekian had a season-best 13 kills to lead the Puget Sound volleyball team to a five-set win over Whitman in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night.

Chekian's dominant night included six service aces and two total blocks. She totaled 21 points for the night.

Aliah Ayau came away with a season-high 23 assists to help lead the Loggers (3-5, 3-5 NWC) to a season-best .240 attack percentage.

With the fifth set tied up, 5-5, Chekian served Puget Sound to eight consecutive points. The run began with a kill by Jena Williams, and two Whitman errors forced the Blues to call a timeout. Still, the Loggers kept the pressure on. Out of the timeout, Whitman committed another error, and Puget Sound took a 10-5 lead.

Whitman called yet another timeout, but that break was immediately followed by three consecutive aces by Chekian.

The Loggers finish the 2020-21 home season against the Blues Saturday, March 6, at 6 p.m.
