Box Score TACOMA, Washington – The shorthanded Puget Sound women's basketball team nearly pulled off a miraculous victory Sunday night, but Whitworth held on for a 67-62 win in Memorial Fieldhouse.
A long list of injuries forced the Loggers to play with only five players in the second half. But Puget Sound wasn't going to let the Pirates leave the gym with an easy win.
Whitworth held a 40-33 lead at halftime, but that advantage narrowed in the second half. The Loggers entered the fourth quarter down by just three points, 49-46. Puget Sound remained within one possession for most of the fourth quarter, but the Loggers never could hit that shot to take the lead.
The Loggers' tired legs were evident in 3-point shooting late in the game. Puget Sound shot 0-for-3 from distance in the fourth quarter. Still the Loggers shot 42.1-percent from the floor in the final 10 minutes, compared to Whitworth's 41.2-percent.
Katie Minnehan finished the game with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Grace Pytynia-Hillier added 15 points. Sofia Lavinder and Georgia Lavinder both finished with 10 points.
Sunday was the final game of the season. The previously scheduled games for March. 8 and March 11 have been canceled due to injuries.
