Box Score TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team won its third consecutive match by beating Whitman in five sets for the second consecutive night Saturday in Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Loggers (4-5, 4-5 NWC) cruised to a two-sets-to-none lead, and they appeared poised for the sweep when they led 7-0 in the third set.
However, the Blues (1-5, 1-5 NWC) were undeterred. They won the third set by three points, and then claimed the fourth set by four points.
Sarah Blumenfeld began the fifth set with a service ace, and the teams went point-for-point until Whitman put together a small 3-0 run to take a 7-4 lead. A kill by Alli Reviglio tied it up, 8-8, and again the Loggers and Blues continued to go punch-for-punch.
Down 12-11, Reviglio came up with another clutch kill to force another tie score. But this time, the Loggers kept momentum. Whitman committed two errors, and Sara Olsson finished off the match with a kill.
Three Loggers finished with 10 kills in the win: Jordan Holman, Melanie Siacotos, and Katelyn Chekian. Blumenfeld added 20 assists, and Aliah Ayau totaled 16.
Puget Sound finishes the season with three matches at Whitworth, March 12-13.
