Puget Sound hosts No. 9 Linfield for Homecoming football game

SPECTATOR POLICY

TACOMA, Washington –
This Saturday, Oct. 2, is the 2021 Homecoming football game. The Loggers kickoff against No. 9 Linfield at 1 p.m. in Baker Stadium.

Welcome to the Hall
Legendary coach Ron Simonson will be inducted into the Puget Sound Athletics Hall of Fame this Friday, and the Hall of Fame Class of 2021 will be celebrated during halftime of Saturday's game. Simonson was at the helm for the Loggers from 1978 to 1984. He led the 1981 Puget Sound squad to a 10-1 record, qualifying for the NCAA D-II playoffs. Simonson was a finalist for the AFCA National Coach of the Year (College Division). In his Logger career, Simonson posted a 53-19-1 record (.733).

Homecoming heroes
Puget Sound has won five consecutive Homecoming games. The Loggers' most recent Homecoming victory was an overtime triumph against George Fox, 24-23. Silas Washington scored the first touchdown in overtime. Although the Bruins answered with a touchdown of their own, they missed the point-after kick to give Puget Sound the win. The stretch of Homecoming wins includes a second overtime thriller. In 2018, Pacific Lutheran elected for Puget Sound to have the first possession in overtime. In the first play of the extra period, quarterback Murdock Rutledge connected with Jewell Day for the go-ahead touchdown. Jason Clayton's interception of PLU in the end zone sealed the win.

In a rush
The Puget Sound program is renowned for its prolific passing offense, but the Loggers enter this weekend as the Northwest Conference leader in total rushing yards (436). Silas Washington has 377 rushing yards this season, and he has reached the end zone five times.

Beyond a Fortune
Murdock Rutledge has 58 career passing touchdowns, which is tied with Hans Fortune '17 for the most in program history.

Catching up
AJ Johnson has 230 receiving yards this season, which puts him at 2,840 career receiving yards. Adam Kniffin '13 holds the Puget Sound record with 2,908 career receiving yards.
