Loggers return from Minnesota to host Northwest

SPECTATOR POLICY
GAME PROGRAM

TACOMA, Washington –
Shortly after coming back home from Minnesota, the Puget Sound men's soccer team takes on Northwest at home Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 4 p.m.

Weekend in review
Ryan Smith and Marko Babiak continued their hot scoring efforts this past weekend, but it wasn't enough to fend off Augsburg (Minn.) and St. John's (Minn.). After this past weekend, Puget Sound is 1-2 on the season.

Firing and saving
Through the first three games of the season, Puget Sound has been aggressive with its shot selection. Meanwhile, Logger keepers have been busy in their own right turning opposing shots. Entering Wednesday's game, the Loggers rank second in the Northwest Conference in total shots (45) and second in total saves (10).

NWC leaders
Babiak is amongst the conference leaders in shots (12), shots on goal (6), and is tied for second in scoring (2) with teammate Ryan Smith.

Do the math
Despite the Loggers' record, Andrew Matheny is currently second amongst NWC goalies with 2.67 saves per game.

Scouting Northwest (2-1)
The Eagles are coming off a win against Pacific last Saturday. Northwest, a member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC), is amongst the CCC leaders in goals (7), assists (5), and saves (14). But its Achilles heel might just be how many goals it has allowed — seven goals in three games. The Loggers' defense will need to be attentive as Northwest has scored seven goals on only 24 shots. Northwest's Elliot Misic leads the CCC in scoring (3) and is second in assists (2).

Looking ahead
Following Wednesday's game, the Loggers will have some time to catch their collective breath. Puget Sound doesn't play until Sept. 18-19, when they open the NWC slate at Pacific and George Fox.
