WALLA WALLA, Washington – After keeping pace with No. 7 Whitman for three quarters, the Puget Sound women's basketball team faltered in the final period and lost to the Blues, 63-51, Saturday. Whitman – nationally-ranked by D3hoops.com – snapped the Loggers' 12-game winning streak.
Sophie Nilsson scored a team-high 14 points for the Loggers (12-2, 5-1 NWC).
Kennedy Brown scored nine points, and
Samantha Swartout added seven points with a team-high six rebounds against the Blues (12-1, 4-0 NWC).
The Loggers opened the game with an 8-2 run that was capped off by an
Addison Reardon 3-pointer. The lead grew to 16-6 when
Sofia Lavinder scored in the paint, and Puget Sound held an 18-11 advantage after the game's first 10 minutes.
The Blues fought back in the second quarter, and cut Puget Sound's lead to 29-27 at halftime. The game was tied up, 45-45, after the third quarter. Whitman opened the fourth quarter with an 8-1 run to take control of the rest of the game.
Overall, the Loggers shot a season-worst 25.5-percent from the floor, and their 22 turnovers were the second-most in a game this season.
Puget Sound hosts Pacific Lutheran Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m.
