TACOMA, Washington – Five Loggers scored in double figures, but the Puget Sound men's basketball team lost to Willamette, 103-86, Friday night in Memorial Fieldhouse.
 
Paul Johnson and 
Will Mathews tied for the team-high in scoring with 15 points each. 
Cal Hansen and 
Taj Phillips both scored 11 points, and 
Mussie Teclemariam added 11 off the bench.
 
The Loggers (6-6, 1-2 NWC) had a strong finish to the first half, taking a 54-51 lead into the break. Phillips, Mathews, and Johnson combined to hit four 3-pointers in the final two minutes of the opening period. Johnson drilled a trey from the top of the arc just before the buzzer.
 
Willamette (4-7, 1-2 NWC) erupted in the second half, shooting 62.5-percent from the floor and 63.6-percent from 3-point range in the game's final 20 points. Overall, the Bearcats shot 16-for-30 from beyond the arc.
 
Puget Sound hosts Lewis & Clark Saturday, Jan. 8, at 6 p.m.
