First-place Loggers set to begin second half of NWC season

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's soccer team enters this weekend in sole possession of first place in the Northwest Conference. The Loggers aim to build on its six-game winning streak at Linfield (Oct. 14) and at George Fox (Oct. 16) this weekend.

Representing the NWC
Puget Sound (10-2, 7-1 NWC) ranks No. 4 in the region, according to the latest United Soccer Coaches poll (Oct. 11). It's the top spot in the region among all NWC teams.

Locked in
Ava Cholakian was named the NWC Student-Athlete of the Week for offense after she notched her second hat-trick of the season. Cholakian scored all three goals in Puget Sound's 3-0 home win over Willamette (Oct. 8). The following day, she scored her 13th goal of the season in a win over Pacific (Oct. 9). Cholakian's 13 goals this season are the most by a Logger since Amalia Acorda-Fey scored 14 times in 2015.

Pouring it on
Puget Sound beat Pacific, 6-0, for the program's largest margin of victory since 2008 (vs. Pacific Lutheran, 8-0). Five different Loggers scored. Layla Santos found the back of the net for the first time this season, and Rylee MacLennan scored her first two goals of 2022.

Totally Rad
Two-time All-NWC recipient Radhika Webster Schultz didn't record a single point in the first three games of the season. However, she has nine points in the last nine games.

Off target
The Puget Sound defense limited both Willamette and Pacific to just one shot on goal. The Loggers have five shutout wins during the current six-game winning streak. For the season, Chaylea Tome has a 0.51 GAA and 0.854 save-percentage.

Scouting Linfield (3-5-4, 1-4-3 NWC)
The Wildcats lost to Puget Sound in Tacoma earlier this season, 3-0 (Sept. 17). Linfield recently notched its first conference victory with a 2-1 win over Whitman (Oct. 9). Laney Green leads the team in scoring with six goals, and five other players have multiple goals this season. Linfield is allowing 1.92 goals per game.

Scouting George Fox (7-0-4, 5-0-4 NWC)
The Bruins are the only NWC team to beat Puget Sound this season, 3-0 (Sept. 18). Although George Fox is unbeaten this season, they have ties against Whitworth, Linfield, Pacific Lutheran, and Pacific. Maggie Phillips leads the NWC in scoring with 15 goals, and Becca Kozak has scored five times. The Bruins hold a conference-leading 0.36 GAA.
