NWC race is heating up as Loggers host George Fox, Pacific

TACOMA, Washington – The Northwest Conference races is tightening up as the Puget Sound volleyball team hosts George (Oct. 21) and Pacific. (Oct. 22) this weekend.

Whitworth (8-3 NWC) holds a half-game lead over the Loggers (7-3) for first place in the NWC. George Fox and Willamette are still in the race, as both teams are 6-4 in the conference. Last week Puget Sound was just one point away from its second 3-0 win over the Pirates this season, but Whitworth pulled off a miraculous comeback to win the match.
 
What can't she do?
Logan Winn ranks second in the NWC for assists (595), sixth in blocks (54.0), and fifth in service aces (26).
 
Efficiency at the net
Avery Allemann is attacking at a .263 clip, and Maddie Klopcic has a .250 attack percentage. They rank seventh and eighth in the conference, respectively.
 
Block party
Avery Allemann ranks second in the NWC for blocks with 72.0.
 
From the back row
Chloe Akiona-Bannan has a team-high 255 digs, and Katelyn Chekian has 194. Freshman Akira Anderson has made significant contributions with 159 digs this season.
 
Ace up their sleeve
Logan Winn and Katelyn Chekian are tied for the team lead in service aces with 26. Akira Anderson is closed behind with 23 aces.
 
Scouting George Fox (9-8, 6-4 NWC)
After sweeping Willamette and Lewis & Clark in consecutive matches, the Bruins lost their most recent match to Pacific, 3-2 (Oct. 14). Kassandra Staton leads the team in kills with 196, and Bailey LeBreton has 177 kills. Lebreton also has 62 blocks, and setting Kennedy Kibby has 440 assists to help George Fox achieve a .190 attack percentage. The Loggers beat the Bruins on the road in five sets earlier this season (Sept. 23).
 
 
Scouting Pacific (10-7, 5-5 NWC)
The Boxers recently snapped a three-game losing streak with wins over George Fox and Willamette (Oct. 14-15). Pacific beat Puget Sound in five sets earlier this season (Sept. 24). As a team, the Boxers are hitting at a .170 percentage. Mara Murphy has a team-high 275 kills. Sarah Hon leads the team in blocks with 48.0, and Danica Nelson has a team-high 280 digs.
