Offense aims to keep clicking at Whitworth

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound football team aims to build off of its offensive breakout game from a week ago when the Loggers travel to Spokane to kickoff at Whitworth Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m.
 
Working the scoreboard
Puget Sound scored a season-high in points last week, but lost at home to Lewis & Clark, 47-41, in overtime in Baker Stadium. After scoring 13 points in the first half (including a defensive touchdown), the Loggers erupted for 28 points in the second half. Puget Sound totaled a season-best 429 yards of total offense against the Pioneers.
 
Not your average Joe
Freshman wide receiver Joe Gallagher leads the Northwest Conference in receptions with 44. He had a season-high 108 receiving yards (10 receptions) against Lewis & Clark last week, and he caught his first-career collegiate touchdown. Gallagher has 37 catches in the last four games.
 
Jeren-zone
Senior wideout Izahiah Jerenz caught his second touchdown of the season last week against Lewis & Clark, finish the game with a career-high 122 yards on nine catches. With 430 receiving yards in six games this season, Jerenz has already surpassed his season total from last year (401 receiving yards in nine games).
 
Triple digits
Silas Washington notched his third 100-yard rushing game of the season with 139 yards against Lewis & Clark. The 2021 NWC rushing king once again leads the conference in yards on the ground (590).
 
Saya-later
Ezekiel Sayavong recorded 2.0 sacks against Lewis & Clark, including a strip-sack. He has 4.0 sacks and two forced fumbles so far this season.
 
Max effort
Against Lewis & Clark, Max Arneklev picked up the loose ball on Ezekiel Sayavong's strip-sack and took it to the house. Arneklev has recovered two fumbles this season.
 
Scouting Whitworth (4-3, 2-2 NWC)
The Pirates suffered consecutive losses against Linfield and Pacific Lutheran, but bounced back with a 42-14 win over Willamette (Oct. 22). Whitworth completed just 13 passes on 20 attempts against Willamette, but the Pirates ran the ball 40 times for 323 yards. Solo Hines leads the team in rushing with 337 yards on 44 carries this season. Defensively, Patrick Serrano has three interceptions, and Derrick Platt has 4.0 sacks.
