TACOMA, Washington – Logan Winn had a career-high 48 assists, while
Avery Allemann and
Katelyn Chekian both put away 14 kills to lead the Puget Sound volleyball team to a 3-2 (27-29, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 15-10) win over Pacific Lutheran in Memorial Fieldhouse Wednesday night.

The first set of the rivalry match the tone for a gritty competition. After being knotted up, 18-18, the Loggers tallied three consecutive points to take a 21-18 lead.
Sarah Johnsen and
Jena Williams recorded kills to give the Loggers momentum. However, PLU answered with three consecutive points of its own.

The Lutes held a 24-23 edge when a kill by Chekian, followed by a service ace from
Akira Anderson, put the Loggers one point away from winning the first set. PLU kept the set alive with a kill followed by an ace, and the Lutes broke a 27-27 tie with back-to-back points.

Puget Sound didn't let up after the first set, and the Loggers won the next two frames. The Lutes pieces together a couple of 4-0 runs in the fourth set to force the fifth and decisive frame.

The Loggers held a tight 5-4 lead in the fifth set when the Lutes committed a crucial service error. The free point sparked a 7-2 run for the Loggers, including a couple of aces by Winn.

A kill be Chekian immediately followed by an ace from Anderson ended the match.

Sara Olsson totaled 11 kills in the winning effort, and Anderson had a team-high 17 digs. Johnsen and Williams came up with six blocks, each.

The Loggers hit .232 for the night, while limiting PLU to .163.
