Loggers and Lutes rekindle rivalry for first time in 2022

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's soccer team has one game this weekend, and it's at Pacific Lutheran Friday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Got their number
Puget Sound was the only Northwest Conference team to beat Pacific Lutheran twice during the 2021 season. Both games ended in a 1-0 final, with Lincoln Schell and Cale Spence scoring game-winning goals.

Diego delivers
Diego Alvaro entered last weekend as the team-leader in shots, but he still hadn't scored a goal. The sophomore finally broke through with his first-career goal at George Fox (Oct. 2). He still leads Puget Sound in shots (15) this season.

That makes a baker's dozen, Bob
Thirteen Loggers have scored a goal this season, with Stuart Methner (3) and Graham Hall (3) leading the way. Etienne Polak also has multiple goals (2) this fall.

Saving Sophomore Ryan
Ryan Saunders far and away leads the Northwest Conference in saves with 60. He also leads the NWC in GAA (0.92) and save percentage (0.845).

Scouting Pacific Lutheran (9-2, 4-2 NWC)
PLU's two losses this year were against Whitman and Willamette, with both games ending in a 2-1 final. The defending NWC champions still have a lot of firepower: Trevor Thompson has eight goals this season, Cris Lozano has six, and four other Lutes have multiple goals. Goalkeeper Nicholas Gaston has a 0.98 GAA and 34 saves this season.
