SALEM, Oregon - Izaiah Jerenz went off for the best game of his collegiate career, and the Logger defense was stout in the clutch as the Puget Sound football team won its 2022 season finale at Willamette, 26-20, Saturday afternoon.
Â
Jerenz, a senior wideout, totaled 257 receiving yards on 16 catches. He also caught both of Mason Binning's touchdown passes. Jerenz came up 23 yards shy of matching AJ Johnson's school record for receiving yards in a game, which was achieved in 2019. Adam Kniffin holds the school record for receptions in a game (22, 2010).
Â
Binning, a sophomore, threw for a career-best 359 yards while completing 31 of 49 pass attempts.
Â
Jerenz had 181 receiving yards in the first half as Puget Sound held a 20-3 lead at the midway point. However, the Bearcats outscored Puget Sound, 14-0, in the third quarter to make it a three-point game. Puget Sound reclaimed a two-possession lead when Binning connected with Jerenz for a nine-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter.
Â
The Bearcats scored again with just under five minutes remaining, and they got the ball back with a little less than 90 seconds left in regulation. Willamette drove down to the Loggers' 20-yard line with six seconds on the clock, but Warren Sisneros-Barber ended the threat by getting to the quarterback for a game-ending sack.
