Women's basketball ready to host Thanksgiving weekend

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's basketball is hosting Thanksgiving weekend. The Loggers welcome Chapman, Whittier, and Lewis & Clark to Memorial Fieldhouse, Nov. 25-26, for a four-game weekend. The Loggers take on Chapman Friday at 1 p.m., and tipoff against Whittier Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
Strength in steals
Through three games this season, Puget Sound's high-pressure defense is leading to nearly 20 steals per game (19.7). Katie Minnehan is averaging an absurd 7.0 steals per game.
 
Doing it all
Katie Minnehan notched a triple-double in the second game of the 2022-23 season. She scored 14 points, came up with 12 steals, and grabbed 10 boards in a win a Multnomah (Nov. 12.).
 
Shots need to fall
Despite outrebounding Wheaton, 48-44, and taking better care of the ball (25 turnovers to 14 turnovers), the Loggers lost at home to the Thunder, 62-56. Puget Sound shot just 23.9-percent from the floor, and 18.5-percent from 3-point range.
 
Double double-double trouble
Samantha Swartout and Katie Minnehan both recorded a double-double against Wheaton (Nov. 19). Swartout netted 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Minnehan scored 12 points to go with 12 rebounds.
 
Brown gets Buckets
Kennedy Brown is the only Loggers to score in double figures in each game this season. She scored 26 points in the season-opener at Warner Pacific (Nov. 11), followed by 14 points at Multnomah (Nov. 12) and 12 points against Wheaton (Nov. 19).
 
Scouting Chapman (2-1)
Julia Strand is averaging a team-high 18.7 points per game through three games, while Mia Yamamoto averages 13.0 points off the bench. As a team, Chapman averages 31.7 rebounds and 15.7 turnovers.
 
Scouting Whittier (1-2)
The Poets began the season with losses against UC Santa Cruz and Chapman, but they beat Pacific Lutheran in their most recent game (Nov. 22). Rhe Nae Leach scored 30 points in the win over the Lutes, and she had a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) against Chapman).
