Men's soccer set for final weekend of 2022 season

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's soccer team celebrates its seniors during the final weekend of the 2022 season. The Loggers host Pacific Lutheran Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1:30 p.m. Puget Sound kicks off against George Fox the following day at 11 a.m. Both games will be played on East Field.

The Logger 11
Prior to kickoff Saturday, Puget Sound celebrates the following seniors: Mark Babiak, Ben Carlsson, Gabriel Faro-White, Michael Forsgren, Cole Haupt, Theo Kostal, Blake Robertson, Lincoln Schell, Adam Schmidt, Ryan Smith, Johnny Walker-Whitmore.

True grit
The Loggers' last time out resulted in a 0-0 tie against Willamette in Baker Stadium (Oct. 30). The Bearcats attempted 21 shots, but thanks to the Loggers' gritty defense, only six of those shots were on frame.

Approaching the century mark
Sophomore goalie Ryan Saunders has 94 saves this season, which ranks second in the NWC. Brant Wintzel holds Puget Sound's single-season record for saves (116 saves in 1990). The last Logger to reach 100 saves in a season was Peter Auffant in 1996.

Ryan returns
2021 All-NWC honoree Ryan Smith recently made his 2022 debut after suffering an offseason injury. Smith scored his first goal of the season in Puget Sound's 2-1 win over Linfield (Oct. 29).

Scouting Pacific Lutheran (16-3, 10-3 NWC)
PLU enters this weekend with eight wins in its last nine games. The lone loss of that stretch came against Whitman (Oct. 22). The run includes a 4-0 victory over Puget Sound in Parkland (Oct. 7). Craig Johnson is the conference's leading scorer with 12 goals, and Trevor Thompson has 11 goals this season. The Lutes are allowing an even 1.00 goal per game.

Scouting George Fox (5-10-3, 2-7-3 NWC)
The Bruins recently got their first NWC wins of the season by beating Linfield (Oct. 23) and Whitworth (Oct. 29). Eugene Peltier has a team-high six goals, and he is tied with Joshua Chang for the team-lead in assists. George Fox is allowing 1.72 goals per game. The Loggers beat the Bruins, 2-0, earlier this season (Oct. 2). Diego Alvaro and Etienne Polak scored in the road victory.
