Women's soccer returns to NCAA Championship, opens at Virginia Wesleyan

TACOMA, Washington – For the first time since 2018, the Puget Sound women's soccer team returns to the NCAA D-III Championship.
 
The Loggers fly out to Norfolk, Virginia, where they kickoff against Virginia Wesleyan in the opening round Saturday, Nov. 12 (game time TBD). Virginia Wesleyan is the host site, with Rowan and Methodist also competing at the location.
 
Puget Sound earned an at-large bid after posting a 16-3-1 overall record. The Loggers were the last team announced during Monday's selection show. The impressive 2022 resume includes wins over Piedmont, Emory, Pomona-Pitzer, and Pacific Lutheran – all of which are in the NCAA D-III Championship.
 
The Loggers closed out their NWC season with four consecutive wins, scoring a combined eight goals in the final two games.
 
Senior forward Ava Cholakian has 17 goals this season, which ranks second in the NWC and is the most by a Logger since 2009 (Janece Levien, 19). Tess Carden leads the conference in assists with seven, a career-high for the fifth-year senior.
 
Senior goalkeeper Chaylea Tome and Puget Sound defense have limited opponents to 0.55 goals per game, which ranks 22nd in the nation. Tome has 10 shutouts this season.
 
Virginia Wesleyanm which competes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, received an at-large bid with its 15-2-3 overall record. The Marlins' 0.445 goals-against average ranks 17th in NCAA D-III. Shyenne Diaz is the team's leading scorer with 12 goals.
