Nationally-ranked Loggers ready for NWC action

TACOMA, Washington – The nationally-ranked No. 25 Puget Sound women's basketball team begins its Northwest Conference slate in Memorial Fieldhouse this weekend against Whitworth (Dec. 2) and No. 21/14Whitman (Dec. 3).
 
In the national picture
Following a couple of 35-point wins over Chapman (Nov. 25) and Whittier (Nov. 26), the Loggers find themselves ranked 25th in the nation by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Puget Sound is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com national poll.
 
Be like Jordyn

Jordyn Reverman was named Puget Sound's Logger of the Week after she matched her career-high in scoring with 19 points against Chapman. She shot 4-for-6 from 3-point range between last week's wins over Chapman and Whittier.
 
What Brown can do for you
Kennedy Brown has scored in double figures in four of five games this season. She leads the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game.
 
Four for nine point four
Four Loggers enter the weekend averaging 9.4 points per game: Katie Minnehan, Sophie Nilsson, Samantha Swartout, and Grace Pytynia-Hillier.
 
Thieves on the run
Puget Sound's high-pressure defense is resulting in a conference-best 18.8 steals per game. Katie Minnehan averages 5.4 steals, while no other NWC player averages more than 3.0.
 
Slammin' Sammie
Samantha Swartout leads the Loggers in rebounding with 7.0 boards per game. She had a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) against Wheaton (Ill.) earlier this season (Nov. 19).
 
Page turner
Paige Gerhart leads the Loggers in assists (4.2), and she's second on the team in rebounding (6.6).
 
Scouting Whitworth (2-3, 0-0 NWC)
The Pirates struggle from 3-point range (18.9-percent), but they still average 63.6 points per game. Whitworth crashes the glass well with 46.6 rebounds per game. Whitworth lost its two most recent games against No. 22/18 UC Santa Cruz (Nov. 27) and Caltech (Nov. 26). Olivia Mayer is the team's leading scorer (18.0) and rebounder (13.8). Kimberly Dewey averages 12.8 points per game.
 
Scouting Whitman (5-1, 0-0 NWC)

The Blues are nationally-ranked by both D3hoops.com and the WBCA. Their one loss was against Lewis-Clark State Valley (NAIA). Whitman also does well on the boards, averaging 44.5 rebounds per game. Korin Baker averages a double-double so far this season with 14.0 points and 11.3 rebounds. Sydney Abbott averages 12.2 points per game.
