TACOMA, Washington – Cal Hansen scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds on Senior Night, but the Puget Sound men's basketball team lost to No. 21 Whitworth, 81-69, in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday night.
 
Before the game, Puget Sound celebrated its two graduating seniors, Hansen and 
Donovan Wilson.
 
Paul Johnson scored 20 points for the Loggers (9-15, 4-10 NWC). It's his 11
th game this season with at least 20 points. 
Will Pohland added 10 points off the bench.
 
After totaling just 10 points in the game's first 10 minutes, the Loggers' offense started to click in the latter end of the opening half. Whitworth (18-4, 11-3 NWC) led 38-23 with 4:11 left in the first half, but Puget Sound pieced together a forceful run 18-1 run to close out the half.
 
Johnson tied the game at 39-39 by hitting a trey with 44 seconds on the clock. Following a defensive stop, Hansen beat the buzzer with a layup that gave Puget Sound a 41-39 lead entering halftime.
 
Johnson opened the second half by hitting a 3-pointer, and Puget Sound's lead reached 50-43 when Pohland scored from the paint with 16:10 on the clock.
 
Ten minutes later, Whitworth claimed a 64-63 lead and never gave it back.
 
Puget Sound has two more games remaining this season, starting at Pacific Lutheran Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m.
