Logger softball set for first home games against Western Washington Saturday

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball team makes its 2022 home debut Saturday, Feb. 19, with a doubleheader against NCAA D-II that starts at 10:30 a.m. The games were originally scheduled for Bellingham, Washington, but anticipated inclement weather up north relocated the teams to Tacoma.

Puget Sound began its season with six losses at three Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams last week (Feb. 11-13). Jessica Moore, who tied for the team lead in home runs last year (4), hit her first homer of the year at Whittier (Feb. 11). Kelsie Sullivan was outstanding in the circle at Redlands, allowing one earned run on six hits in a complete-game effort.

Between the abridged 2020 and 2021 seasons, Puget Sound has an 8-12 record on Logger Field.
 
Clash with the Vikings
Western Washington and Puget Sound went head-to-head for two games last year, with the Vikings winning both ends of the doubleheader. Hailee Ueyama went 3-for-7 with two RBI in those games, while Hana DeGuzman went 2-for-5 with a run and two steals.
 
Scouting Western Washington (2-8)

The D-II Vikings enter this weekend with a five-game losing streak, all of which came in the 12th Annual Desert Stinger in Tuscon, Arizona. Dakota Brooks has a team-high nine RBI, while Tatum Dow leads the Vikings in hitting with a .438 batting average. Kira Doan holds a 3.08 ERA through 25.0 innings, but she has an 0-2 record. As a team, the Vikings have three home runs and two steals.
