Softball begins NWC action at home this weekend

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball team begins its 2022 Northwest Conference schedule at home this weekend against George Fox, Feb. 26-27.
 
D-II tested
The Loggers' 2022 home-opener was last week (Feb. 19) against NCAA D-II Western Washington. Despite losing both games of the doubleheader, Puget Sound's pitchers stood their ground. The Logger pitching staff allowed just five earned runs in 14 innings (2.50 ERA), and struck out 11 batters.
 
Madd Dawg
Maddy Garcia allowed only two earned runs in a complete-game effort against Western Washington. She has a 3.60 ERA entering the weekend, which ranks ninth in the NWC.
 
Hello, Newman
Mikayla Newman has a team-high .909 OPS, and she is hitting .273 through her five games played.
 
Hailee talented
Hailee Ueyama is the Loggers' leading hitter with a .318 batting average. She also leads the team in total bases (9) and runs scored (3).
 
Scouting George Fox (5-3, 0-0 NWC)
The Bruins' last four games were against teams that currently ranked nationally the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA): No. 15 Berry and No. 18 Piedmont. The Bruins went 1-1 against both teams (Feb. 19-20). Seven Bruins have at least five RBI this season, led by Sharon Tomei's eight RBI. Tomei also has a team-high two home runs. Ashley Davis has a 1.12 ERA through four starts (25.0 IP), and Emma Eastman has a 2.80 ERA through four starts (20.0 IP).
