TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound baseball team rallied for five runs between the seventh and eighth innings to beat Pacific, 10-6, at Logger field Friday afternoon.
Â
The Loggers (6-5, 3-1 NWC) entered the bottom of the seventh inning in a 6-5 deficit. But a leadoff single by
Makana Murashige followed by walks to Will Gross and
Kyle Strash loaded the bases. The Loggers took a 7-6 lead when
Dylan Joyce and
Shane Himeda were hit by pitches in consecutive at-bats.
Â
Murashige was once again the catalyst in the eighth inning. He led off by getting on base when the Pacific third baseman made an errant throw to first base.
Clayton Waltz followed with a single, and Will Gross ripped an RBI double down the left-field line.
Â
Cody Hirano brought Waltz home with a sac fly to center, and Strash put the Loggers up 10-6 with an RBI single up the middle.
Â
Puget Sound's first run of the game was Joyce's fifth home run of the season – a solo blast to right-center field in the first inning. He finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI. Strash reached base four times while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Â
Murashige scored four runs during his three-hit game, and Waltz touched home plate three times. Hirano drove in three runs, doubling up his season total.
Â
Tyler Beckley (1-0) earned the win by throwing two shutout innings out of the bullpen.
Â
The Loggers and Boxers have a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 26, starting at 11 a.m.
