Big second half lifts Loggers past Whitman

Box Score WALLA WALLA, Washington – Lauren Mastin scored a team-high five goals to lead the Puget Sound lacrosse team to a 20-13 victory at Whitman Sunday afternoon.

It was Puget Sound's first game with at least 20 goals since a 21-15 win against Pacific April 3, 2021.

Beatrice Bridge and Emily LaRiviere both netted four goals in Sunday's win. Olivia Almy played all 60 minutes in goal to earn her third win of the season.

Whitman held a 5-4 lead with the clock winding down in the first quarter, but Milan Lam beat the horn to tie the game heading into the second quarter. Mastin scored three goals in the opening quarter.

Both teams scored four times to remain tied at halftime, but the Loggers had a big second half.

The third quarter opened with three consecutive Puget Sound goals – one by Bridge and two by LaRiviere. Hayden Hotchkiss and Hannah Bushing scored late in the quarter to give the Loggers a 15-12 edge with 15 minutes left to play.

Once again, Bridge was the first to score in a quarter, this time giving the Loggers a 16-12 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Loggers closed out the game with four consecutive goals, the last of which was by Bridge.

Puget Sound's schedule turns to a non-conference game against Augsburg Friday, March 18, in Oregon.
