Loggers keep playoff hopes alive with 19-7 win over Lewis & Clark

TACOMA, Washington – Dylan Joyce homered twice – and earned the victory on the mound – to lead the Puget Sound baseball team to a 19-7 win over Lewis & Clark at Logger Field Tuesday afternoon. The win keeps the Loggers' playoff hopes alive.

Puget Sound finishes its Northwest Conference regular-season with three games at Whitman, April 20-21. Wednesday's game is at 7 p.m., and Thursday's doubleheader starts at 12 p.m. Puget Sound is the designated home team for the series.

Joyce earned the start on the hill Tuesday. He worked five innings and allowed just two earned runs to post his first decision of the season. He hit solo home runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, bringing his total to 12 for the season. He hit a dozen long balls in 2021.

Gio Parascondola went 3-for-4 at the plate, including his fourth home run of the season. Clayton Waltz totaled a team-high four hits, three of which were doubles. He entered the game with two doubles for the season.

Kyle Strash, Jacob Ota, and Shane Himeda each had a three-hit day.

The Loggers finished the game with 24 hits, 11 of which went for extra bases. The 19 runs scored matched a season-high (vs. Carleton, 19-4, March 26).

With the three NWC games remaining at Whitman, the Loggers have an 11-10 conference record. Pacific and Linfield are both 14-10 in the NWC, but the Loggers hold the tiebreaker over both teams.
