Bushing, Crowther send Loggers into OT, but Linfield wins it

TACOMA, Washington – Hannah Bushing scored the equalizing goal in regulation, and Phoebe Crowther made a clutch save, but the Puget Sound lacrosse team lost to Linfield, 13-12, in double overtime (sudden-death) in Baker Stadium Wednesday evening.

With just over four minutes left in regulation and the Loggers trailing by a goal, 12-11, Lauren Mastin found Bushing in front of the cage. Bushing took advantage by beating the Linfield goalkeeper up high.

With seconds left in regulation and the score still tied, Linfield broke free in transition and found a wide open attacker in front of Crowther. However, Puget Sound's freshman goalie made the point-blank save to send the game into overtime.

Linfield scored the game-winning goal 15 seconds into the second overtime.

The game got off to a promising start for the Loggers when they took a 2-0 lead. Mastin scored the first goal nearly five minutes into the contest. Five minutes later, Emily LaRiviere scored off a free-position attempt.

Momentum then shifted, and Linfield closed out the opening quarter with four consecutive goals to take a 4-2 lead.

Linfield struck first in the second quarter, but consecutive goals by Beatrice Bridge, Hayden Hotchkiss, and Abby Stranahan tied the game, 5-5.

By halftime the Loggers faced a one-goal deficit, 8-7.

Four minutes into the fourth quarter, Beatrice Bridge scored on a free-position shot to bring the Loggers to within one, 11-10. However, it took Linfield just 10 seconds to answer with a goal of its own.

Hotchkiss brought the Loggers back to within a goal, 12-11, when she scored with 5:33 left in regulation.

LaRiviere led the Loggers in scoring with four goals. Bridge and Stranahan both scored twice.
