Logger football travels to southern California this weekend

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound football team travels south this weekend to take on Cal Lutheran Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
 
Binning is budding
Sophomore Mason Binning got his first real look as Puget Sound's primary quarterback in the second half of the 2022 season-opener at Lewis & Clark (Sept. 3). He completed 10 of 17 pass attempts for 124 yards in the game's final 30 minutes. Last week against Lewis-Clark Valley, Binning was 17-for-30 for 254 yards and three touchdowns.   
 
King Henry
Henry Hernandez scored three times during last week's exhibition game against Lewis-Clark Valley. He totaled 83 yards on 14 carries.
 
Joltin' Joe
Freshman wideout Joe Gallagher caught a 62-yard touchdown pass from Mason Binning against Lewis-Clark Valley. Gallagher finished the game with four receptions for 78 yads.
 
Jeren-zone
Izaiah Jerenz had four catches for 65 yards, including a touchdown reception, against Lewis-Clark Valley. He has been the Loggers' leading receiver since the start of the 2021 season.
 
Saya-what?!
Senior defensive lineman Ezekiel Sayavong came up with an interception against Lewis-Clark Valley, and the big man rumbled 19 yards before being knocked out of bounds just short of the end zone. Alex Meadowcroft also had an interception in the game. Amarian Culpepper finished with a team-high seven tackles.
 
The one that got away
Puget Sound hosted Cal Lutheran last year, and the Kingsmen escaped with a 25-21 win. The Loggers held a 21-3 lead with nine minutes left in regulation, but Cal Lutheran scored 22 unanswered points to win.
 
Scouting Cal Lutheran (0-2)
The Kingsmen enter this weekend with a couple of one-point losses. They came up short against Southwestern (Tex.), 31-31, and fell to Chapman, 42-41. Quarterback Nick Lasher averages 337.0 passing yards per game, and he has thrown eight touchdown passes to two interceptions. Isaiah Martin averages 102.5 rushing yards per game, but just 3.8 yards per carry. Julio Angel is the team's top receiver with 189 receiving yards. Defensively, the Kingsmen have yet to record a sack. The team has forced three turnovers (two fumbles, one interception).
