Loggers begin NWC season at home against Whitman, defending champ Whitworth

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team begins its Northwest Conference slate in Memorial Fieldhouse this weekend. The Loggers host Whitman Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m., and host Whitworth the following day at 6 p.m.
 
All in on Allemann
Avery Allemann leads the Loggers in kills with 75, and she's the team-leader in blocks with 25.0. Allemann had a career-high 15 kills in a match against Chapman last week (Sept. 10). Her .284 hitting percentage ranks sixth in the NWC, and her 25.0 blocks rank third.
 
Winning touch
Logan Winn's 8.46 assists per set rank second in the NWC, and her 220 total ranks third. She totaled a career-high 43 assists against Chapman last week (Sept. 10), and she has at least 30 assists in six of Puget Sound's eight matches this season.
 
Mad about you
Maddie Klopcic has 24.0 blocks this season, which ranks second on the team and fourth in the conference.
 
Support from the back
Chloe Akiona-Bannan has 104 digs this season, which ranks sixth in the NWC. Katelyn Chekian ranks eighth in the conference with 86 digs.
 
Rookie reps
Freshman Akira Anderson has played in all 30 sets this season. She is second on the team in service aces (9), and third in digs (69).
 
Scouting Whitman (2-6)

The Blues enter this weekend with two wins in their last three outings, which includes 3-0 victories over Schreiner and St. Joseph's College of Maine. As a team, Whitman is attacking at a .134 clip. Kenzie Martinez has a team-high 91 kills, and Nicole Kelly follows with 82 Defensively, Sophia Dominitz has 23.0 blocks, and Sydney Crowe has 22.0.
 
Scouting Whitworth (6-2)
The defending NWC Champions had a four-match winning streak snapped by Transylvania, 3-1, last week (Sept. 10). Still, the Pirates are the only NWC team hitting over .200 (.211) this season. Maddie Lee has 109 kills this season, and three Pirates are tied for second on the team with 60 kills, each. Ella Jimenez is up to 46.0 blocks through eight matches, and Eva Millan has 142 digs.
