A challenging start to the NWC season awaits Puget Sound at No. 7 Linfield

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound football team begins its 2022 Northwest Conference season with a big challenge at No. 7 Linfield Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Centennial man
Silas Washington has rushed for at least 100 yards in each of Puget Sound's games this season. He ran for 108 yards on 23 carries in the season-opening Northwest Scholars Series at Lewis & Clark (Sept. 3), and he ran for 142 yards on 32 carries at Cal Lutheran (Sept. 17). Offensive linemen Cal Puapuaga, Sean Miller, Jackson Dennis, George Fournier, and Calyb Sauao-T'oa have been clearing the lanes for Washington, who leads the NWC in rushing yards per game (125.0).
 
Building something special
Sophomore quarterback Mason Binning has completed 60.4-percent of his pass attempts, and he has turned the ball over just once. During the Loggers' exhibition against Lewis-Clark Valley, Binning through for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
 
Joe 'n Jerenz
Senior wide receiver Izaiah Jerenz leads the team in receptions with nine, while freshman Joe Gallagher has seven. The duo combines for 184 receiving yards through two games this season.
 
Forcing the issue
The Loggers defense has forced three fumbles, and recovered three fumbles, so far this season. Mar Arneklev and Aaron Jimenez both have a force and a recovery to their name.

Scouting No. 7 Linfield (2-0)
Ranked top-10 in the nation by D3football.com, Linfield has wins over No. 24 Huntingdon and Redlands this season. The offense averages 409 yards per game, while scoring 31.0 points per game. Running backs Connor McNabb and Connor Morton have combined for 174 rushing yards on 53 carries between the two wins. Quarterback Blake Eaton has thrown the ball 69 times in two games, completing 45 of those attempts for 570 yards and six touchdowns. The defense has recorded seven sacks and four takeaways.
