Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Teclemariam's double-double not enough at Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Oregon – Mussie Teclemariam recorded a double-double off the bench, and four Loggers scored in double figures, but the Puget Sound men's basketball team lost at Pacific, 83-78, Friday night.

Teclemariam scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Liam Ruttledge scored a team-high 18 points, while Taj Phillips and Grant Erickson both finished with 10.

The Loggers were in a 65-50 hole midway through the second half, but they fought back to tie the game.

Drew Gillette scored in the paint while drawing a foul for a three-point play that cut the Loggers' deficit to 65-54 with 7:19 on the clock. Following a defensive stop, Ruttledge converted a three-point play of his own to make it a 65-57 game.

The Loggers trailed, 69-63, when Ruttledge drilled a 3-pointer to make it a one-possession game. Both teams traded two-point baskets before Ruttledge was fouled while shooting from beyond the arc. He made all three free-throws to tie the game, 71-71, with just under three minutes left in regulation.

From there, however, Pacific went on a 7-1 run to seal the win.

Puget Sound stays in Oregon for a tipoff at Linfield Saturday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m.
