McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Avery Allemann and
Logan Winn delivered double-doubles as the Puget Sound Loggers triumphed over Linfield University with a thrilling 3-2 victory, with set scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-11, 21-25, and 15-9 on Saturday night.
The two teams were evenly matched in the first set, with both recording 16 kills. The Loggers initially faced a six-point deficit, but the Loggers quickly bounced back. In the end, it was four back-to-back kills from Katelin Sindelar that took the lead for the Wildcats.
The second set saw a similar level of competition, but the Loggers maintained their lead throughout the set. Linfield managed 12 kills with hitting percentage of .103, while Puget Sound had a .200 hitting percentage.
Mackenzie Leith contributed three kills, helping the Loggers level the match at 1-1.
In the third set, the Loggers asserted their dominance posting a .250 hitting percentage and holding the Wildcats to just five kills, along with a negative hitting percentage of -.194. Allemann garnered five blocks and two kills, while
Sarah Johnsen made three kills for the Loggers, and taking the lead 2-1.
However, the Loggers couldn't maintain the momentum as Linfield took back the court. Six of the Loggers' points in this set came from errors by the Wildcats, but the Loggers countered with six service aces. The game was tightly contested with four lead changes until Claire Johnsen and Nora Myre made consecutive blocks to secure a fifth set.
The final set sealed the victory for the Loggers, as they took an 8-3 lead to start and continued with eight kills and three blocks. Puget Sound held Linfield at nine points for a dominant win.
Allemann recorded a remarkable .400 hitting percentage, contributing with 10 blocks and 11 kills, while Johnsen also boasted an impressive .348 hitting percentage with 11 kills. Winn provided 32 assists and 14 digs for the Loggers. In total, the Loggers accumulated 74 digs, 48 kills on a .169 hitting percentage, 15 service aces, and 12 blocks.
The Loggers with a Northwest Conference record of 6-4, face their undefeated rivals Pacific Lutheran University (10-0), on Wednesday, October 18
th, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Fieldhouse.
