Logger men's soccer falls 3-2 in final regular season game at Linfield

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Puget Sound men's soccer team lost to the Linfield University Wildcats 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in their final regular season Northwest Conference match.

In the first half, the Wildcats started the scoring five minutes into the match and doubling that lead in the 35th minute. The Loggers scored their first goal just before the end of the half tightening the gap 2-1. Marko Babiak crossed the ball towards the goal, while Pema Globus shot the ball into the back of the net. However, the Wildcats responded less than a minute later with their third and final goal of the night in the 45th minute. The Wildcats scrambled to get one more play in before the half, a corner kick that soared across the field, jumping off the head of a Wildcat and reaching Ryan Vargo for the final touch into the far side of the net, extending their lead 3-1.

Rhys Foote led the scoring in the second half with a goal in the 78th minute, but it wasn't enough to catch the Wildcats. Foote headed the ball into the net after a precise pass from Globus. The Loggers delivered nine shots in the second half.

Ryan Saunders made six saves, four of which happened in the first half. Linfield had nine shots on goal and 13 shots overall. Puget Sound had eight corner kick opportunities while the Wildcats only had four.

The Loggers finished out their regular season 8-5-5 overall, and 6-5-5 in the NW Conference.
