TACOMA, Wash. — Taj Phillips scores his first double-double with a season-high 26 points going 5-for-6 from the 3-point line adding 10 assists, six boards and five steals in a 93-84 win on Saturday afternoon against Northwest Indian College.
Dezman Baker finished with 15 points going 6-for-10 from the floor while
Hugo Rutherfurd and
Liam Ruttledge both notched 14 points and freshman
Ian Cook made eight rebounds.
The Loggers started the game with a 9-0 run led by Ruttledge for five points and Phillips initiated two steals. The Loggers held the lead for most of the first half but the Northwest Indian Eagles tied it up with less than five minutes remaining. The Eagles took the lead shortly after and went into the half up 48-44.
In the second half, the Loggers struggled to catch the Eagles in the beginning with three lead changes but eventually at 62-61 the Loggers leaped ahead and continued to push reaching a 14 point lead with 6:57 remaining in regulation. The Loggers took it all the way to the end with Rutherford going 3-for-4 from the floor.
The men's basketball team heads to California on Monday to face University of California, Santa Cruz and Chapman in a tournament hosted by UCSC.
