Box Score 2 PASADENA, California – Dylan Joyce eclipsed 100 runs batted in for his career as the Puget Sound baseball team won two games at Caltech Saturday.
Puget Sound 11, Caltech 1
Dylan Joyce drove in two runs and drew three walks as the Loggers won the first game of the doubleheader, 11-1. He became the sixth Logger in school history to reach 100 career runs batted in – he currently has 102 after the doubleheader.
Makana Murashige hit his second grand slam of the season in the seventh inning. The Beavers pitched around Joyce with the bases loaded, and the base on balls forced in a run. From there, Murashige broke the game wide open with one swing, 10-0.
Nathan Blocher hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning. It was a two-run shot that gave the Loggers a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore
Davis Franklin had the best outing of his young career, striking out 10 batters in seven innings. He allowed just one walk. He struck out the side in the second inning, and at one point retired 10 consecutive batters.
Joyce finished the game 2-for-2 with three walks. Murashige finished the game 2-for-5 with five runs batted in, and
Nathan Blocher went 2-for-4 with three runs.
William Gross had his first multi-hit game of the season, going 3-for-5 at the plate.
Puget Sound 13, Caltech 2
Brett Harvey improved to 2-0 on the mound and the Loggers posted a five-run second inning on their way to a 13-2 win over the Beavers. The big inning included an infield single by
Makana Murashige, and a two-run triple by
Nathan Blocher.
Harvey allowed just one earned run on three hits through his six-inning start.
In the fourth inning,
Dylan Joyce hit an RBI double and Blocher drove in another run with an infield hit.
Puget Sound went up 12-2 with a four-run rally in the sixth inning.
Aidan Sullivan,
Jack McCullar, and
Gabe Huante each drove in runs by hitting doubles.
Just like the first game, Joyce finished 2-for-2 with three walks. Murashige, Blocher, and
Kahiau Teruya each had two-hit games, with Blocher driving in three runs.
