Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES, California – The Puget Sound softball team rounded out its season-opening California trip with two wins at Occidental, and the Loggers return to Tacoma with a 3-3 record. It's Puget Sound's best start to a season since the 2017 campaign.

Puget Sound 2, Occidental 1 (8 inn.)
Savanna Smith allowed one earned run as she pitched all eight innings in the Loggers' 2-1 victory over the Tigers. She yielded only five hits and struck out four.

Smith also got it done with her bat, driving in both of the Loggers' runs. Hope Fleischman singled to left field in the sixth inning, and she came in to score the first run of the game when Smith crushed a double.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, but Puget Sound needed just one extra inning for the win. Emily Moore drew a leadoff walk and then advanced to scoring position. After a sac bunt by Fleischman moved Moore to third, Smith lifted a sac fly to left field for the go-ahead run.
