Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES, California – The Puget Sound softball team rounded out its season-opening California trip with two wins at Occidental, and the Loggers return to Tacoma with a 3-3 record. It's Puget Sound's best start to a season since the 2017 campaign.

Puget Sound 2, Occidental 1 (8 inn.)
Savanna Smith allowed one earned run as she pitched all eight innings in the Loggers' 2-1 victory over the Tigers. She yielded only five hits and struck out four.

Smith also got it done with her bat, driving in both of the Loggers' runs.
Hope Fleischman singled to left field in the sixth inning, and she came in to score the first run of the game when Smith crushed a double.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, but Puget Sound needed just one extra inning for the win.
Emily Moore drew a leadoff walk and then advanced to scoring position. After a sac bunt by Fleischman moved Moore to third, Smith lifted a sac fly to left field for the go-ahead run.

Puget Sound 8, Occidental 6
The Loggers surrendered five runs in the first inning, and they were in a 6-1 deficit after four innings. However, Puget Sound erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning for the comeback win, 8-6.

Jessica Moore and
Savanna Smith began the fifth with consecutive doubles. Two batters later,
Sam Bland hit a double of her own for another run.
Emily Moore reached base with a base hit, and
Natalie Wilson got in via a fielder's choice.

Kimora drove in two runs with a single up the middle, and
Jazzy Allen added another two runs with a double to left field.
Jessica Moore provided the final run of the rally with an RBI single that allowed Allen to score.

Jessica Moore went 3-for-4 at the dish, while
Mikayla Newman, Allen, Smith, and
Emily Moore each finished with two hits.

The Loggers begin their Northwest Conference schedule at George Fox Saturday, Feb. 25.
