TACOMA, Washington – Backed by its top two goal scorers from last spring, the Puget Sound lacrosse team enters the 2023 season with expectations of competing for a Northwest Conference title.
Â
Emily LaRiviere returns for the Maroon & White after netting 40 goals last year, and
Abby Stranahan aims to build on her 29-goal campaign in 2022.
Â
LaRiviere was named to the 2022 All-NWC First Team. She had nine multi-goal games, including a season-high seven against Linfield.
Â
Stranahan had eight multi-goal efforts in 2022, and her season-high in scoring was also seven goals (vs. Whitman).
Â
Milan Lam will also play an integral role for the offense. She played in just five games last year before suffering a season-ending injury, but in those five games Lam scored 13 goals. She had a four-goal performance against Linfield, and a five-goal game against Whitworth.
Â
The defense is anchored by senior goalie
Olivia Almy, who was an All-NWC honoree in 2021.
Phoebe Crowther is also positioned to earn some minutes between the pipes – Crowther had a .400 save-percentage in eight appearances last year.
Â
Junior defender
Jenna Thompson also brings veteran leadership to the back line. So far in her Puget Sound career, Thompson has made 23 starts in 25 appearances.
Â
The 2023 season begins immediately with Northwest Conference game as the Loggers play at George Fox (Feb. 22) and at Willamette (Feb. 26) this week.
Â
The first home game of the season isn't until March 14 when the Loggers host NC Carroll University out of the NCAA D-III College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
