Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Comeback bid comes up short in NWC Semifinal

WALLA WALLA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's basketball team spotted Pacific a large lead early, and the Loggers couldn't overcome it in a 64-49 loss against Pacific in the NWC Semifinal round Friday afternoon. The Loggers were the #2 seed, and Pacific was #3. Whitman, the #1 seed, hosted the game.

The Boxers opened the game with a 9-0 run, but Puget Sound closed the gap to 19-15 by the end of the first quarter. Pacific pushed its lead to 13 points, 29-16, midway through the second quarter. Once again, Puget Sound battled back in the final minutes of the period, and a jumper by Jordyn Reverman in the final seconds of the second half cut Pacific's lead to 32-25.

Puget Sound stayed within single digits for most of the third quarter, but the Boxers scored consecutive baskets to take a 49-37 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Loggers did not relent in the fourth quarter. Katie Minnehan scored consecutive baskets midway through the final quarter to close the deficit to 53-46.

After another defensive stop, Jenai Ancheta earned a trip to the line where she went 1-for-2, making it a two-possession game at 53-47 with 3:06 on the clock. However, that's as close at Puget Sound would get. The Loggers missed opportunities from the paint and 3-point range down the stretch, and they also committed a crucial turnover.

The Boxers shot 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the final minute of the game.

The Loggers shot just 4-for-24 (16.7-percent) from 3-point range, and 16-for-58 (26.7-percent) overall.

Jordyn Reverman was the only Logger to score in double figures. She shot 5-for-10 from the floor and finished with 11 points.
