Box Score WHITTIER, California – Dylan Joyce mashed two home runs, and
Makana Murashige hit a grand slam as the Puget Sound baseball team won its season-opener, 13-4, at Whittier Friday afternoon.

The Loggers were in a 4-1 hole after five innings, but Joyce hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit in half. Immediately following Joyce's homer, the next three Logger batters reached base.

With the bases loaded,
Nicholas Prater put the ball in play and the Whittier first baseman committed an error to allow
Makana Murashige to touch home plate. The Loggers tied the game, 4-4, later in the inning when
Jack McCullar scored on a passed ball.

Kahiau Teruya drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning, giving Puget Sound its first lead of the game.
Cody Hirano then hit a sac fly to cushion the lead to two runs.

The sixth-inning rally rolled on, and it culminated as it began – with a Joyce homer. This time three runs crossed the plate to give Puget Sound a 9-4 lead. Â

Murashige belted his grand slam in the eighth inning.

Davis Franklin earned the win after working five innings and striking out four. He allowed four earned runs.
