TACOMA, Washington – It took the No. 20/16 Puget Sound women's basketball team 28 minutes to hold any sort of lead. But when the Loggers got ahead, it all started to click as Puget Sound rolled a 61-51 victory over George Fox Saturday evening in Memorial Fieldhouse.
Â
The Bruins led by as much as 10 points in the first quarter, and they held a 33-27 lead at halftime.
Â
The Loggers, however, are no strangers to double-digit deficits. Late in the third quarter,
Sophie Nilsson hit a 3-pointer to tie the game, 37-37, with 2:22 on the clock. Following a defensive stop,
Grace Pytynia-Hillier drilled a trey to give the Loggers their first lead of the game, 40-37.
Â
Puget Sound's defense continued to get stops, the Loggers entered the fourth quarter with a 44-39 lead.
Â
The Loggers held a narrow 52-50 lead late in the fourth quarter, but that's when
Kennedy Brown caught fire. She drilled a 3-pointer from the right side to increase the lead to 55-50 with 2:13 left in regulation.
Â
After Nilsson corralled a defensive rebound, the Loggers pushed the ball up to Brown. Again she hit from distance on the right side, and the Loggers went up, 58-50.
Â
Pytynia-Hillier scored a team-high 18 points off the bench. Samantha Swarout and Brown scored 13 points and 12 points, respectively.
Â
The Loggers remain at home next week against Linfield and Pacific, Feb. 10-11.
